Exorcist Diary #16: Bishops in Hell

We were exorcizing a young, religious woman. She got the demons, not through her own fault, but those of her family. Not fair? Your mother told you long ago, “Life is not fair.”

In the course of her liberation, the demons did everything they could to dissuade her from staying in religious life. I recall a story about the saintly Curé of Ars, St. John Vianney. At one point, Satan told him, “If there were three like you on this earth, my kingdom would be destroyed.” One faithful religious can do immense damage to Satan’s kingdom.

So, the Prince of Darkness is anxious to destroy her vocation. On at least three different occasions over a year of prayer sessions, she picked up her head and said in great dismay. “I see many, many bishops in hell!” To discourage her, Lucifer was showing her a sea of bishops in hell. He is a most cunning tempter.

Yes, of course, there are many bishops in hell. However, my experience is that the vast majority are kind, pious men who spend themselves in God’s service. But Satan did not show her those.
