Exorcist Diary #40: Via Crucis 3- Handed Over to Sinners
Time and again, men tried to grab hold of Jesus and kill him, but he walked through their midst because his hour had not yet come (Jn 7:30). Now, as he enters his Passion, his hour is here.
Judas, his own beloved yet fallen apostle, leads them to Jesus. After he shared unworthily in the Last Supper, the Scriptures record, "Satan entered him" (Jn 13:27). He leaves the table and the company of Jesus; "It was night" (Jn 13:30).
Jesus predicted that he would be handed over to evil men (Lk 24:7). The fury, rage, mockery, and violence with which they treat him is hard to understand. Even Pilate wonders at the crowds' reaction, "Why? What evil has he done?" (Mt 27:23). They are like raging beasts shouting in an evil frenzy, "Crucify him, crucify him!" Religious leaders are leading the demonic chorus.
Yes, it is Satan to whom these men are giving voice. It is he who rages against God and his Son. It is he, the Prince of Darkness, who is bent on destroying all that is holy. Now, the Son of God submits and surrenders himself into their hands. It was night.
